After being recommended to this client by an architect, we were asked to complete the barn conversion that in turn would create two open plan flats for the rental market.
The client was targeting the higher end of the rental market and wanted this to be reflected in the finish to both properties.
With the demands of the client to produce two high end flats the most challenging part of the project was also the most rewarding.
The stairwell to library area consumed a large amount of talking points, having been designed initially as a metal curved arrangement.
After looking at the plans, consulting with the client and architect it was proposed an amendment to the plans that would draw on our skills as carpenters to include in the build a circular staircase, hand cut on site to exact requirements of this unique barn conversion.
This change would provide something more unique and tailored to the property and therefore enhance its high quality finish.
With the site already cleared we started on this intensive project to turn the existing barn in to two properties.
We had to install two biodigesters and also LPG gas tanks to serve the properties with relevant and essential utilities.
With the basic utilities laid we worked on the property like a new build, driving through keeping the project on schedule.
Once we had established the two separate properties within the barn we began to work on them individually to create a different style in each.
Both properties were required to have extensive work completed to enable sound proofing as well as the very important fire protection.
The client had asked us to complete the entire build, including windows, doors, bathroom and kitchen install which we have come to specialise in with members of the Atlantis team.
With this construction project nearing completion we bought in our painting and decorating team to start on the upstairs library working down, staying within the client mandate we provided a crisp, clean finish throughout.
With the environment and cost control a very important factor, we managed to utilise the existing buildings credentials therefore replace as little as possible and only adding features.
This substantially reduced cost but also the amount of waste removed. We installed super efficient boilers and upgraded the insulation value for the whole property.
The barn conversion was a huge success for the client, Atlantis provided within the budget a top of the market transformation from disused space in to two luxury flats. Both of which were rented within days of completion.
The project met the initial specification and was a delightful project for the Atlantis team.
