The objective

Following on from one of our previous case studies, we were instructed by the architect on the clients behalf to continue with the kitchen expansion having already laid the foundations.

From here Atlantis Project Management and Construction would go on to complete the kitchen extension in full.

The challenges

As mentioned earlier we had to work in an extremely confined space within the back garden.

With nowhere to stores materials or have them delivered in bulk the project called for strict control on deliveries.

Forecasting daily the requirements of the build and drawing on the excellent relationship with suppliers we overcame the problem with space and materials.

The method

With the project now in full swing we began building the external walls that would house the new kitchen and dining area.

To make this a space that could be used all year round we installed one large skylight the length of the kitchen extension to increase the amount of natural light flowing through the room.

Structurally we used a number of steels to support the rear wall and bathroom allowing us to effectively tie in the new build to the existing house.

We then altered the internal stairs to open up even move space thus allowing the addtional capacity to install modern kitchen applicances, improving space efficiency.

Finally to complete the kitchen space we installed under floor heating, natural ceramic tiles and modern fixtures and fittings to give it a clean, modern feel.

Waste, environment and the community

At Atlantis we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously. All our materials when possible are sourced from sustainable sources and waste is kept to a minimum.

Having already recycled thirty tons of waste with a trusted supplier we continued to decrease our environmental footprint with locally sourced tiles and glass.

The noise was also kept down to a minimum throughout and drawing on our previous experience only commenced noisy works at sensible times.

The result

At the end of the kitchen extension we had delivered an exceptionally well finished build to the clients exact specification.

The addition of the utility room under the stairs added some much needed space within the home.

The most pleasing aspect of the build was completing the install of the glass paneled ceiling that really helped to open up the space created.

On completion we cleaned the entire house from top to bottom including windows inside and out leaving the house exactly how we found it.
