As a commercial refurbishment project that needed to be restored under an insurance claim, the owner of the property asked Atlantis to carry out a full scale roof repair of the commercial space that was damaged through fire.
The building had a construction survey and instantly an excellent partnership was formed with the contract administrator as this roof repair needed dedication of all parties to remove the chance of disruption to the tenants during the construction process.
Due to the extensive damage of the roof, caused by the fire to the integrity of the roof structure and the building utilities we had to put in place a full height scaffold complete with tin roof to keep out the weather and assist this commercial refurbishment.
Once inside the scaffolding we had to work carefully on this roof repair with safety a concern throughout the construction period. We removed the damaged timbers and took the building back to a safe level before any construction could begin.
The downstairs business space escaped damage and wished to remain operational throughout the roof repair.
It was something we had to work with to reduce the impact on their own trade.
With the scaffolding in place to protect the building from the weather and having removed all the damage to the building we began to carefully complete the roof repair installing the new ceiling timbers, wiring, plumbing and stud walls.
Due to the extent of the damage and the level of construction needed, we worked closely throughout the initial commercial refurbishment stages with the structural engineer and client to ensure compliance with building regulations.
As we pieced together the final stages of the roof repair we began to work on a new roof for the building that was in keeping with the local area that reflected the heritage and age.
At Atlantis we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously.
All our construction materials when possible are sourced from sustainable sources and waste was kept to a minimum during this roof repair.
We also pride ourselves on taking the construction waste materials often created in a commercial refurbishment project like this and were able to re-use a large number of the roof tiles during the roof repair on the site to reduce the amount of waste.
All other construction materials were removed from the site and disposed of safely due to the damage incurred.
From the beginning of this commercial refurbishment, we worked closely with the contract administrator, the tenants, landlord and structural engineer to completely remove the fire damaged roof and replace within the shortest possible time.
We completed the commercial refurbishment work to our own high standards to ensure the needs of all parties were met, the most rewarding part of this commercial refurbishment project was to see the newly completed roof repair restored to its previous best with minimal distraction to the businesses below.
We cleaned all the areas of the construction site and returned the building back to its previous state.
